Sam Torgersen

BA Hons, Dip. Counselling, MBACP

I am passionate about the benefits that counselling can have for people. Through my work I have experienced how therapy can improve mental health and well being. As a qualified and registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP ) my work is underpinned by their Ethical Framework which provides a robust framework for my counselling practice. I attend regular Clinical Supervision to safeguard my practice as well as professional development days to enhance my skills and maintain my professional standards.

Alongside my private practice, I work at a leading independent school in Oxford offering counselling to both students and staff. Prior to this I worked in the NHS for more than 20 years. Before undertaking my counselling training, my speciality was Paediatric and School Health Nursing. I have significant experience in supporting children, young people and their families therapeutically. Since 2013 I have been working within the CAMHS Service (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service) across Oxfordshire.

I have worked at Oxford Brookes Counselling Service and at the Parenting Project; a Warwickshire based counselling service for adults.

I have undertaken many courses which compliment my Counselling training including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), and Brief (Solution-Focused therapy). I have undertaken a Certificate in Counselling Young People.

Workshops & Training

Within the NHS I have gained extensive experience of facilitating therapeutic group work for young people and parents using Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Solution-Focused approaches. I also have experience of delivering mental health training and supervision to academic and pastoral staff within schools..
