Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to commit to regular sessions when I make an initial appointment?
No. This is an opportunity for you to decide whether counselling with me feels right.
What will happen when during the initial appointment?
During the first meeting we can spend some time together to establish our relationship and decide whether it would be a good idea to continue. We will also discuss your personal need for counselling. After this initial appointment we will meet at the same time and place each week.
Before you arrive I will send you an electronic copy of my contract. This will allow you chance to read this in your own time and come prepared with any questions you may have. The contract forms the basis of our work together.
Is there a fee for cancelling sessions?
Yes unless 48 hours notice is given. Further information relating to cancellations and planned breaks can be discussed during our initial appointment and will also be included in the contract that I send you.
How many sessions will I need?
This will always vary. It depends on what you want to get out of the process. We can work for a specific amount of time (normally between 6-20 sessions) or on a more open-ended basis. This can be discussed in the initial appointment. Planning the ending of our work together is important.
Are sessions confidential?
Ensuring that your confidentiality is upheld is very important to me.
There are two exceptions to this: if I became concerned that you are at risk of significant harm to either yourself or if you pose risk to someone else then I may want to share this information. Whenever possible I will make you aware of my intentions.
The other exception is information that is shared with my supervisor. Every counsellor has regular supervision where client work is discussed. This is where our counselling practice is developed and supported. When clients are discussed in supervision they are done so anonymously.
Do you offer online Counselling Sessions?
Yes. I am able to offer sessions remotely by video or telephone whichever you prefer.
